These are for today, the true Independence Day, as on this day the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence. Since the British and their Hessian mercenaries were heading straight for Philadelphia, they believed it would be prudent to post date the document, giving them two days to get out of town.

We have celebrated Independence Day two days late ever since.
