My friend Dan Taylor went to HAC in the early days, and he was briefly in charge of Security. I stole his post from another site:

Regarding having fun, what fun I had at HAC -- especially in the old days!

The winter of 1975-76. The "powers-that-be" deserted the campus during Christmas Break, as did your dad, Bro. Meister, John Olsen -- everybody. And they left me in charge! I was left in charge of security and grounds.

One night we had our first big snow of the season. The snow was a foot thick on the ground. The tractor was out of commission. One wheel had gone flat and altough it had been repaired the wheel was still strapped to the bed of the pickup truck. Your dad had left specific instructions to leave the wheel alone -- that we would not be able to put it back on the tractor without his help.

That was all the challenge I needed. I recruited what few fellows were left on campus and together the group and I lifted the wheel out of the truck and put it back on the tractor. Then I proceeeded to plow snow.

Now for a city boy (and a Southerner), I did a fairly good job. Of course, I plowed up all the railroad ties that surrounded the flower beds near the road (I couldn't tell where the road was), and even though no one was expected to visit the campus for several days, had they done so they would have had no problem driving around. As a matter of fact, any visitor would have had a few extra avenues to travel!

How I avoided getting into big-time trouble behind that one I'll never know.
